IRISH WOLFHOUND OF THE YEAR
rules and regulations
Please note that this system was adopted on 23 July 2016
Points shall be accrued as follows:
- The competition shall run from January to December of each calendar year.
- These points can only be gained at KUSA sanctioned Championship Shows save and except any FCI show where no points shall count towards this competition.
- Competition is open to all Irish Wolfhound owners but trophies will only be handed out to paid up club members.
- Points to be calculated as per the table below.
- The Committee shall administer the computation of points from show catalogues, judge’s sheets and copies of KUSA award certificates.
- A Draft copy of the Final Points shall be published by the end of February of the year following the competition. This shall provide time for verification before the awards are presented at the club Championship Show in April.
- Any queries on the Draft Final Points must be submitted to the committee without delay and in writing, substantiated by the relevant catalogues and/or documentation as proof of claims. It shall otherwise be deemed that the competitor accepts the results as per the draft copy published.
- Within the breed judging results the CC (Challenge Certificate) or RCC (Reserve Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch points shall not be included in the Irish Wolfhound of the Year competition.
- The CC (Challenge Certificate) or RCC (Reserve Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch points shall be added to the Breeder of the Year points.
- Any 2 point CC (Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch points shall be calculated as per a 1 point CC (Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch for points. I.e. 4 points for Breeder of the Year and 2 CC’s for Most CC’s awarded.
- All CC (Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch awards shall be used in the results for the winner ofthe Most CC’s award. Any 2 point CC (Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch award shall be calculated as two CC (Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch awards for the Most CC’s award. No RCC (Reserve Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch award shall contribute towards the Most CC’s awarded.
- Entries in the Baby Puppy Class shall not compete for the Irish Wolfhound of the Year competition or for the Irish Wolfhound Puppy of the Year Competition.
- Any additional points from Group places upwards shall be in addition to the breed points already accrued.
- There shall be a RUNNER-UP Irish Wolfhound of the Year, which shall be the second highest scoring dog in points, regardless of sex.
- There shall be a BEST OPPOSITE SEX Irish Wolfhound of the Year, which shall be the dog or bitch of the opposite sex who stands first behind the Irish Wolfhound of the Year.
- The top ten dogs in the country shall be invited to attend a prize giving to be held at the Championship Show or similar event, the year following the competition.
- If at the end of the competition year, there are any dogs with equal points, the tie break shall be decided upon by whichever of the dogs has achieved the highest award or number of awards starting with the most Best in Show wins, and so on down to the most BOB wins. If, after this, the tie has not been broken then there shall be a joint placing of the dogs and any awards shall be shared.
THE FOLLOWING POINTS SHALL BE ACCUMULATIVE ON THE Best Of Breed POINTS.
All Breeds Group and Group Club Places:
Group Club Definition:
A Group Club shall be a club that shall have more than one breed of dog, such as Sporting Dogs Association, Gold Reef Sight Hound Club, Celtic Breeds Club, Cape Hound Club, East Coast Hound Club and so on. The Irish Wolfhound Club of Gauteng is a Specialist Club, not a Group Club.
IRISH WOLFHOUND PUPPY OF THE YEAR
The same rules shall apply as for Irish Wolfhound of the Year unless stated to the contrary below.
- The competition shall run from January to December of each calendar year.

- The Committee shall administer the computation of points from show catalogues, judge’s sheets and copies of KUSA award certificates.
- A Draft copy of the Final Puppy Points shall be published by the end of February of the year following the competition. This shall provide time for verification before the awards are presented at the club Championship Show in April.

- This competition shall be held and calculated separately from the Irish Wolfhound of the Year.
- All points shall be accumulative
- All puppy points shall be retained for the Puppy of the Year.
- Minor Puppy class (6-9 months) and Puppy class (9-12 months) are eligible for the Irish Wolfhound Puppy of the Year competition.
- Baby Puppy class (4-6 months) is not eligible for the Irish Wolfhound Puppy of the Year competition.
- If a BOB or RBOB is awarded to a Puppy this shall accrue points to Irish Wolfhound of the Year and shall have no bearing on Irish Wolfhound Puppy of the Year competition.
- If a CC or RCC is awarded, this shall accrue points to Breeder of the Year and shall have no bearing on Irish Wolfhound of the Year or Irish Wolfhound Puppy of the Year competitions.
- Any 2 point CC (Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch points shall be calculated as per a 1 point CC (Challenge Certificate) dog or bitch for points, i.e. 4 points for Breeder of the Year and 2 CC’s for Most CC’s awarded.
- Only one place shall be awarded.
THE FOLLOWING POINTS SHALL BE ACCUMULATIVE ON THE Best PUPPY POINTS.
All Breeds Puppy Group and Puppy Group Club Places:
BREEDER OF THE YEAR
The competition shall run from January to December of each calendar year and the breeder shall accrue all points awarded to all dogs and bitches bred by that kennel, in both Irish Wolfhound of the Year and Irish Wolfhound Puppy of the Year competitions. NOTE: Only South African breeders qualify for this award.
In addition to the above points, the CC Dog/ CC Bitch and the RCC Dog/ RCC Bitch awards shall accrue the following points to the Breeder of the Year:
